Choosing a course of study can be complex when you don’t know what path to follow. Each course has its own characteristics, strengths and weaknesses. What is a certification course?

Definition of certification training

A certification course is a recognized course that leads to an official certification. It is automatically listed in the RNCP (Répertoire national des certifications professionnelles) and the RS (Répertoire spécifique). As a reminder, the mission of these organizations is to issue authorizations for certification training.

A strict evaluation

The RNCP issues certificates that guarantee the skills required to practice a profession. To do this, the entity uses a valuation framework. The SR, in turn, awards additional certificates for those who have completed certification training.

A professional jury evaluates the skills acquired through the certification training. This estimate covers all levels of degrees and certifications. This measure, set out in article L6113-1 of the French Labor Code, applies equally to all sectors of activity.

Types of certification training

There are two types of certification training:

  • professional titles on the one hand. It is a certification granted by the Ministry of Employment and registered in the RNCP;
  • Certificates of professional qualification (CQP ). The latter are specific to a professional branch. They are authorized by all the companies working in the same sector. The skills acquired concern the reality of their jobs.

Why take a certification course?

Who can provide certification training?

A certifier approves the accreditation of organizations that wish to provide certification training. To do this, the authorities check the partners authorized to deliver these certifications. A request must be submitted to France compétences via their website. The declaration will then be finalized with the certifying bodies.

The data is published and submitted to the Caisse des Dépôts. The latter is in charge of controlling the entities delivering certification training via the EDOF platform. Thanks to the application of this rule, 42,000 habilitations have been approved within France Compétences . The objective is to provide apprentices with a complete and enriched training program as part of their professional development.

What is the difference between training leading to a certificate, qualification or diploma?

A training course leading to a certificate of aptitude or an attestation of training. There is no diploma or certification given at the end of the training. This pathway focuses primarily on a specific area of expertise rather than on an actual profession.

Certification training allows you todeepen your existing know-how and improve your skills. It is followed in order to help employees gain efficiency at work.

On the other hand, degree courses are an integral part of certification training. They allow students to obtain a state-recognized diploma. This is the case for the BTS, the baccalaureate, the DUT, the master, the licence or the doctorate.
